“Can you guess, just from appearances, whether or not someone is wearing their favorite shirt? Is it a pristine, tailored article that only sees the light of day on holidays and special occasions? Or is it a piece that is so enjoyable to wear, that it is worn until the last stitch falls out and it can no longer be defined as clothing? Affection can be manifested in different ways by different personalities over time. Wear as an indication of time no longer holds true in a fashion paradigm of pre-worn styles. To explore the relationship between care, wear, and time I have chosen to take recently acquired articles of clothing and begin documenting upon them all of the dates I have worn them. The viewer of this ongoing process will not only be the gallery-goer as the work is exhibited, but more frequently it will be persons I interact with on a day-to-day basis where they will be confronted with the connection of clothing to time and memory. The hope of this process is to make more visible my history with my clothes as a means to encourage the viewer to consider their temporal connection to what they wear. Fashion is always a factor when dealing with clothing, but this piece attempts to look past the look of the clothes and speak to clothes as a mechanism for embedding memories and those memories as they help build one’s identity.”
