Since winning a Kresge Artist Fellowship in 2021, Andrew “AndyT” Thompson has managed to pay off 6-out-of-8 credit cards! Now a lot of his artwork is going to be about debt. Debt & credit-worthiness are tied to generational poverty/wealth and the systemic racism baked into capitalism via colonialism. Each paper pineapple sculpture is made from 12 months of old bills, and the retail price for each pineapple is indexed to the average monthly cost of a past year’s worth of billing.
