Halloween Costume: The Space Below The Couch
This was my Halloween costume during my Sophomore year of college. For some reason I wanted to go specifically as the space below a couch, but not as the couch itself. I constructed a facsimile of the bottom edge of the couch as a dimensional contour line to indicate an above and a below threshold and I then occupied the space below. I was proud of the lightweight construction and how it simply sat on my head. I went to two parties with it and was basically banned from the dance floor at both locations, rightfully so, and then I went home. In revisiting my back catalog it became clear that this was the piece before the piece that would eventually lead to a series of exploring oneiric, day dream spaces as described by Gaston Bachelard.
