This piece was constructed from a collection of old, retired and discarded road signs that I had picked up from around Kansas City. I brought them with me to grad school at Cranbrook not knowing what I might do with them. One night I had impulsively assembled them into a narrow house-like structure that eventually turned into a template for a series of structures made out of metal window screen and coal tar. Later, I encountered a discarded school crossing sign and that ended up setting the pitch of the roof into the proportions that it is now, which I like much better. Since I only had one of these found school crossing signs, I fabricated a second one out of masonite and enamel so that I could complete the overall form.
