This is a monoprint created by dipping a used tire into used motor oil from my car and then pressing the sidewall against a found cardboard box.

I revisited this gestural print two years later by making the more dimensional Tire Tracks by turning the tire treads into an impromptu mold and casting concrete within them. Moldmaking and casting is essentially a 3D version of printmaking. The tire treads were separated from the tire sidewalls and they were then much more flexible and I could hold them in place with a bar clamp until the concrete set.
