I consider this piece to be something of site specific collaboration with Amanda Lechner, her family, and Santa Fe. Amanda had an artist residency at Vital Spaces that was to culminate in a solo exhibition. As part of her residency she offered fresco workshops to other artists and then the works they created would be exhibited alongside Amanda’s own. For the 5 days I participated in our bespoke workshop, Amanda and her husband Dustin Dennis hosted me and fed me at Amanda’s family home. The first morning that I stayed there I woke up to the smells of a delicious New Mexican breakfast, and as I entered the kitchen, the first words uttered to me by Dustin were “Andrew, what’s your favorite food?” That question became my inspiration for the next few days. We also discovered an old plastic highchair on the property that Amanda’s younger sister was likely fed in. From there Amanda taught me how to create fresco inlay for the sides and feeding tray. The imagery is of my favorite foods, but includes a version of a local mural of breakfast painted on an old satellite dish.
