This was the third in a series of figurative tableaus constructed out of trash that confronted some form of lived trauma. This scene depicts my visit to the emergency room after my roommate Greg was hit by a car while riding his bike. As with the other pieces in the series, a majority of the figures are at half size (technically 1/8th size because in 3 dimensions, the scale gets cubed), while the central character remains at full life size. In “Where ya’ headed’ stranger?” and Intruder in the Kitchen, the central focus was on an animal portrayed life sized, a dying deer and a pesky squirrel respectively. With this piece it is my friend lying in a hospital bed while being tended to by several medical professionals. He was in good hands, but it was disturbing to see your friend in such a state and knowing there was nothing you could do personally to help in that moment.
